The basic MyIkonBoard services are free (funded by advertising), allowing you to use a reduced
range of features if you wish to test the service for a while or have no need for additional
conveniences.
The main drawback to the free service is that you cannot customise the look of the board as only
the default template is available.
Some users may actually prefer this approach though, as there are very few settings to worry
about, and you are free to create your own categories, forums, moderators and user groups.
User registration is verified by email, which is one feature that would be unavailable if you
installed IkonBoard on the CGI-BIN server.
Applying for a board is quick and easy, using a very short online form. Once you have
submitted the info, an activation link is sent almost immediately via email.
Summary
MyIkonBoard is ideally suited for webmasters who do not wish to learn Perl or PHP, and want a
fast bulletin board with the minimum of fuss.
Those who want custom graphics should look elsewhere.
