Inline banners are no longer required for pages on the 'planet' servers as advertisements are
now automatically added to pages there (unless you've paid to have them removed).
Even though I paid to have the advertisements removed, I still include inline banners here to
help reduce Spaceports losses and in case the revenue sharing scheme returns someday.
If you wish to include them too, you should make sure that they are visible at 640 by 480
resolution without scrolling.
Web site banner code
The code for pages on the 'planet' server is
<!--#spaceportsbanner-->
For those of you with frames in your page, things get a little more complicated.
In addition to placing the <!--#spaceportsbanner--> code in one frame, you must
put
<!--#framecode-->
in all your other frames.
If you want to display a banner, the standard code must be included in at least one
frame of each frameset. Using <!--#framecode--> in all frames of your
frameset may no longer be cause for deletion of your account, but it would be completely
pointless.
The code for use on the CGI-BIN server is in the CGI-BIN
section of this site (which you might not need to worry about yet).
Acceptable wording
You cannot ask or tell people to click on the banners.
The only acceptable phrase you can use on your pages is "Please visit our
sponsors." This is already part of the ALTernative text description for the banner in
any case.
The phrase has to stand alone so that there is no possibility of it being misconstrued as being
part of any other text.
i.e. You cannot put "Please visit our sponsors. They make this site
possible." or "This site relies on banner revenue. Please visit our
sponsors."
Personally, I see little need to draw attention to the banners as most people know what they are
for anyway.
