During March 2002 I added several new features to the site, as well as editing some of the content to reflect changes at Spaceports since my last update.

First of all, I have tried to make people aware of the changes to the CGI-BIN paths for users who received their account from end February 2002 onwards.

Secondly, I updated the articles on banners to let new users know that inline banners are no longer compulsory on the 'Planet' servers, as the adframe is added automatically.  They are of course still necessary on the CGI-BIN server if you haven't paid for their removal.

I've updated the FAQ section and added an FTP FAQ and an upgrades FAQ to it.

I have added a PHP manual to the PHP section, so that SP users don't have to visit PHP.Net as well as here when learning how to use it.

I updated the phpMyAdmin installation tutorial to cover version 2.2.4 instead of 2.2.1 (a minor, but important edit).

I've also added a new section containing several online tools to help users create graphics and logos for their site.  I'll add more as I find them.

Finally, I've added a new "home" page in addition to the default index page which appears when you first enter the site.  The idea is that the index page lets new visitors know what the site is about, and the "home" page allows return visitors to skip that info and get on with finding the info they need.

Assuming they bookmark it, that is (hint hint).

Please contact me if these changes have broken any links, or if I've missed updating something (I know the Portal hasn't been updated yet - I'll do that next).

Spaceports News

Probably the biggest news about Spaceports is the reduction of the bandwidth limit to 100 Mb per day and/or 1 Gb per month, effective from the start of March.

If you have paid for ad removal, the previous limits of 500 Mb per day and/or 5 Gb per month still apply.

On a lighter note, several upgrades have been made to the CGI-BIN server, including more recent versions of PHP and Apache.  A new hard drive has also been fitted, which will hopefully stop those nasty "out of disk space" errors for a while.

There is a few side effects associated with these changes, namely that certain PHP scripts may act differently (due to changes in PHP itself) and new users will have a different CGI-BIN path.

If you received your CGI-BIN account after the middle of February (2002), then your base path is /home3/username/public_html/ (replacing 'username' with your username).
