Overview

These pages are intended for anyone with a site at Spaceports who wishes to learn how to use the WS_FTP LE (or WS_FTP Pro in classic mode). The information will still be useful to those of you with sites hosted elsewhere as only the connection details will differ.

I chose WS_FTP as my first tutorial as it is the most widely used and has all the features you need to be able to use the CGI-BIN effectively. Most new users seem to have trouble either with uploading in ASCII mode or knowing how to CHMOD files. These pages should solve both those problems.

I won't go into any detail as to what FTP is or how it works, because all you really need to know is how to use the software. I will include links to resources for further information at the end of the tutorial.

Before you start

In case you do not already have either WS_FTP LE or WS_FTP Pro I have joined the Ipswitch Associates Program which allows me to use logos and information for their products, offer them for download and provide links to further information.

I do not earn anything from this by the way, as the LE version is freeware, and the Pro version here is an evaluation download.

WS_FTP LE (5.06) 16 bit - for Windows 3.x (953 Kb).

WS_FTP LE (5.08) 32 bit - for Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT (691 Kb).

WS_FTP Pro (5.05) 16 bit evaluation - for Windows 3.x (461 Kb).

WS_FTP Pro (6.51) 32 bit evaluation - for Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT (2,067 Kb).

Or visit Ipswitch to download the files direct from them.

You will also need the FTP settings sent to you via email when you signed up for your account. Find them before going any further.
