Many of these questions are no longer relevant since the revenue sharing scheme was discontinued
in November 2001, but they are still asked from time to time, so I have updated the

General questions
Q: Where do I sign up?
A: You no longer need to sign up for the scheme as it became part of the main
site application process. It was also discontinued, but may start up again if the
market picks up.
Back to FAQ
Q: Is the scheme available worldwide?
A: If your country has an international postal service, then it should be
possible for you to be included if the scheme starts again.
Back to FAQ
Q: How do I make money from my site?
A: It was just a matter of adding the banner code(s) to all your
pages. This caused an inline banner to be displayed. Each click on a banner from a
unique visitor earned you 10 cents.
Currently we do not get paid for clicks on advertisements.
The number of clicks and money earned were shown on the stats page inside the member's area.
Back to FAQ
Q: How often do people get paid?
A: Spaceports are not currently accepting payment requests. Any clicks
accrued in the past can be used in exchange for certain services, or saved for later use.

Banners
Q: What code do I use for my CGI-BIN pages?
A: For pages on the CGI-BIN server you must use the following
code:-
<a target="_blank"
href="http://www.spaceports.com/cgi-bin/banner.cgi?server=cgi-bin&username=YOURNAME&click=1"><img
src="http://www.spaceports.com/cgi-bin/banner.cgi?server=cgi-bin&username=YOURNAME&view=1"
height=60 width=468 border=0 alt="Please visit our sponsors."></a>
Change YOURNAME to your username (without the ~ character).

Q: What code do I use for my website pages?
A: The code for pages on the 'planet' server is
<!--#spaceportsbanner-->
although you do are no longer required to insert it due to the automatic addition of advertisements
when each page is viewed.
For those of you with frames in your page, things get a little more complicated.
In addition to placing the <!--#spaceportsbanner--> code in one frame, you must
put <!--#framecode--> in all your other frames.
If used, the ordinary banner must be displayed in at least one frame of each frameset in a
position that allows it to be completely visible on a 640 by 480 screen without needing to
scroll. Using <!--#framecode--> in all frames of your frameset no longer cause for
deletion of your account, but it would be more than a little pointless.

Q: Where do I put the banner code?
A: If used, it must be placed in the body of your HTML pages (between the
<BODY> and </BODY> tags) in a position that allows it to be completely
visible on a 640 by 480 screen without needing to scroll.
For those of you that have a free Spaceports domain, you must place the banner near the top of
the page.
Back to FAQ
Q: Can I ask or tell people to click on the banners?
A: No. The only acceptable phrase you can use on your pages is "Please
visit our sponsors." (This is already part of the ALTernative text description for the banner
in any case).
The phrase has to stand alone so that there is no possibility of it being misconstrued as being
part of any other text.
i.e. You cannot put "Please visit our sponsors. They make this site
possible." or "This site relies on banner revenue. Please visit our sponsors."
Back to FAQ
Q: Do I have to display a banner?
A: If you want your site hosted free of charge, yes. However, on the
'planet' sites you do no longer have to insert the code manually as advertisements are
automatically added.
You can pay a fee of $20 a year to have banner-free hosting, or if you earned enough clicks
(500+) when the revenue scheme was running, you could exchange 200 of those clicks instead.
Paying for removal of ads on your 'planet' account also allows you to omit the CGI-BIN banner
code.

Domains
Q: How do I get a free domain?
A: You must earn $50 from banner revenue in order to qualify. For more details
of the scheme see this page at the
Spaceports main site.
That is obviously not going to be easy with the revenue sharing scheme on hold.
Back to FAQ
Q: Is it a real domain?
A: Yes. However, it uses a redirection service to forward users to your site.
You can choose to hide your real URL or not. It is very similar to the service offered by Redirection.Net except that you can only redirect users to a
Spaceports site.

Stats
Q: How often do the stats update?
A: They don't (currently).
Back to FAQ
Q: My stats aren't changing - will I still get paid?
A: Clicks on banners no longer earn revenue for users. If the scheme
starts up again, the clicks will be kept track of.
