The Site
I started this unofficial guide in an attempt to help those who are new to Spaceports or to
creating Web pages.
When I first applied for a site here, one of my first stops was the Spaceports Forums. After
browsing through the many posts there, and asking questions of my own, I soon realised that the
same questions were asked again and again.
Because of the nature of forums, the answers were soon pushed further down the list as users
asked new questions. I decided to devote most of this site to provide answers to those questions
all in one place.
The official FAQ and help pages should always be the first place to look for quick answers, but
the Spaceports staff just do not have the time to provide the detail that many people need.
Future Plans
I don't intend to cover subjects such as HTML too deeply, as they are not specific to
Spaceports. If you're interested, I have another site at WebWysardry.com that explains more general Web design topics.
I will however be adding more tutorials about the basics of starting a site here. My first
additions were biased towards the CGI side of things, but it seems as if my efforts there have paid
off and less questions seem to be asked about that.
I will also be adding some seemingly unrelated content. Spaceports provides unlimited space and
is one of the best free Web space providers I have found. Rather than use inferior hosts for our
other projects, we will gradually create sub-sites off this one for projects in their early stages
of development.
Notice how I slipped from using "I" to "we" there? Well, up until now, this site has mostly been
my own personal project. My partner's area of expertise is in graphics and design and, as you can
see, graphics do not feature very heavily in the tutorials.
Some of our upcoming projects may feature more graphical content, so the site may become more of
a team effort.
